Current Events Quiz 1.1

1. The proposed police budget for 2015-2016 is 394 million dollars.
2. The Travis county jail is working with inmates to remove their tattoos because they think that without the tattoos when the inmates get out they will have a better chance of being employed and accepted.
3. The proposed price for the parking pass at ACL is $100 per vehicle.
4. AISD will have about 2 million dollars less than last years budget due to state sharing requirements.
5. The Texas longhorns will play Notre Dame this weekend.

The issue of gay marriage rights is an increasing problem. Personally I think that people should be able to marry who they want. In this scenario, I think the county clerk, Kim Davis, should continue to voice her opinion but let someone else handle this case. I think it is important that everyone speaks their mind but if it's going to effect others, than they need to step away from the issue.
       I don't think that she should completely comply with what the federal government has asked because she has the right to voice her opinion and stand up for what she believes in. Again, I do however think that she should not continue to go to court with this issue. Depending on how she refuses, I think that the results should be different. If she calmly states her personal beliefs, I don't think anything should happen to her. Now if she acts in violent ways or abuses her power as a county clerk then she should not be able to issue licenses or work in this field anymore.
       I do think that states and counties should be able to make decisions that the federal government does not agree with. When this country was established they had the issue of the federal government having to much power, so they spread out the power. States need to be able to decide for themselves what happens but within reason. I know that that is vague but here is my description of "within reason." They take into consideration people and human nature but still have strict policies.
       So I think that Kim Davis should stand up for what she believes in but not let her opinions and beliefs effect others. People need to remember that everyone has their own opinions and if you want to have free speech, then everyone gets to have free speech.
